Beyoncé’s record-breaking Renaissance World Tour has come to an end after blazing through 56 dates in 39 cities, all while maintaining a constant buzz across social media through Mute challenges, Visual discourse, and an abundance of silver outfits. When the Renaissance World Tour kicked off on May 10 in Stockholm, Sweden fans were curious about who the official opening acts would be; but when creating an album that is a tribute to dance music and queer nightlife there is no better choice than guest DJs.
The Renaissance album was seamlessly arranged like a DJ mix, incorporating samples from music styles such as Disco and House, while the album’s lyrical content explores themes of self-expression, ball culture, and The Church. An intersection those unfamiliar with House music wouldn’t expect but a parallel that pioneers of the genre have alluded to for years; The Club is your church, The DJ is the Pastor and the Record is the Sermon! Parkwood Creative Director Andrew Makadsi’s decision to center DJs directly from the clubs in this way was a gift to dance music and nightlife culture worldwide.
We had the pleasure of capturing the behind-the-scenes of two amazing DJs who have made a name for themselves in New York City clubs and beyond. Pump The Beat for Sekucci & Sterling Juan Diaz as they ride to Met Life Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ to open for Beyonce and The Renaissance Tour.
