Clipped! – HBO Max’s Legendary: Mike Q
Each week we chat with a contestant from the eliminated house & share a playlist of their favorite ballroom clips.
Legendary is television’s first reality competitions series focusing on the ballroom scene. The HBO Max series features eight houses competing in a variety of categories including performance, sex siren, face and other staples from the scene. Each House of five will compete across nine themed balls, which will ultimately lead to the crowing of one “superior house” and a grand cash prize of $100,000.
Each week we will chat with a member of the eliminated house and share a curated video playlist of their favorite ballroom clips. Last week we saw both houses up for elimination stay so we decided to interview the ballroom producer behind the music.
This week we welcome Legendary Mike Q!
You just released the theme song for Legendary featuring rapper Ash B. What was that process like writing and recording?
The process was unusually quick, I mean it did take work up until 2 days before it came out. I started with laying the main beat out, I then took that over to The studio with James Blake when we met up and I took Ash B. along and we had a whole song in a few short hours, from there I just tweaked things until I was happy with the final mix was completed.
Favorite memory from your journey on Legendary?
I have a few but the best day I had on that set was when Dominque (Tyra) visited us oyster than that the entire experience was phab and I hope to do it again SOON.
What is one misconception about Ballroom you would like to clarify with viewers?
Currently. IT’S A DIP, NOT A DEATH DROP.
What has been your favorite ballroom experience or battle?
Out of 16 years it can’t possibly be one, but thinking back. Everything, person and venue that’s not around anymore and the many nights created that we won’t get anymore.
