$UBSCRIBE – THE NEW DIGITAL SEX ECONOMY: Ed Charm

While they may not be mainstream topics of conversation or household names just yet, subscription websites like OnlyFans.com are becoming more and more familiar to LGBTQ communities throughout the world. As early as the internet existed, the monetization of sex work online has proliferated, from early porn download sites to more contemporary video sharing and modern webcam services. Selling subscription services that allow users to view videos or the watch live webcam feeds of professional or amateur sex workers has indeed flourished online for years already. So while OnlyFans and similar websites are not particularly new in concept, they perhaps offer a more user friendly and trendy vehicle for a particular type of sex work, allowing a wider group of people to use the site as content creators and consumers. Here in the US, gay men and trans women seem to be driving the growth of these apps as the landscape of sex work is changing and cultural attitudes within queer communities are shifting and evolving. In particular, OnlyFans and sites like it appear to be emerging as a path for LGBTQ sex workers of color to potentially completely revolutionize not only the nature of their sex work but also to reap unprecedented financial rewards.

Why did you decide to create an OnlyFans / JustForFans account?
I’ve always expressed myself in a sexual yet subtle way. I got to a point where i got comfortable enough to start monetizing off of it. I eventually want to create my own subscription based website but I felt starting an Onlyfans was a great way to introduce myself to the world of online sex, gain traction and visibility.
Your account is a mix of professional and semi professional photos, how important is that type of curation to your following?
It’s what keeps them subscribed month to month. Here’s a message from one of my subs:
With regard to sex work, do you feel that using OnlyFans offers you more personal safety than relying on escorting or having to meet clients in person?
Absolutely. I can’t compare it to escorting bc I’ve never done it but I feel in control and very safe doing sex work through onlyfans. EVERYTHING is digital nowadays so that works perfectly!
Were you concerned about being “exposed” or the social/cultural stigma associated with sex work/pornography? Are you worried about the effect having made sexually explicit content might have on you in later life?
Definitely. If I’m being honest, I was petrified. We have grown up to believe that anything sexual displayed in any public forum is an absolute disgrace and should never be spoken about in public. And that’s tragic AF. What about the ones who enjoy expressing their sexual side? All of my life I judged sex workers bc of the fear that someone would expose me of wanting to experience the same. I never talked about it until now. (weight lifted). I’d lie if I said I don’t think about the implications of this might have later in life but I quickly check myself bc those perceptions are man made. There are PLENTY of pornstars that live beautiful lives.
How do you market & promote your account?
I definitely use Instagram and Twitter hard to promote my content but oddly enough , Facebook has become the hub of most of my recent subscribers. Don’t sleep on FB. Lol
About how many monthly subscribers do you have?
Averaging about 150. But it’s growing everyday which I’m so grateful for. Whew!
How frequent do you post?
Consistently but not too frequent. I have a solid body of work on there now that my subscribers enjoy. Then I add fresh content strategically.
What physical asset do you think your followers enjoy the most?
In that order actually. lol the hair gets them in , the dick makes them stay and the ass makes them wish they were with me. 🦊
Do you brand yourself as verse or bottom?
Submissive vers for sure. I call myself babyfox to my subs bc I am naturally feline and I love to be handled and taken care of. Baby fox lends to that fantasy. But I also flip if the vibe calls for it. A lot of the captions involve about you making sure your top is satisfied and treat you which was refreshing, tell us about why that is important. It creates the fantasy. It hits both types of viewers; tops and bottoms. I think about those small details. It’s also respect. I respect your body you respect mine.

One of the features you use to promote on twitter is your girthy penis. What are the official measurements?
7’ long , 6’ thick. Big head. A GLOCK.

How has having your OnlyFans account changed your financial situation?
Well i past my starter goal and I’m able to pay all of my bills with it. And stay afloat during this quarantine!

Has having an OnlyFans account affected your dating life? Relationships? Friendships? Has it changed how you personally view sex/sex acts/sexuality for yourself?
When I’m interested in finding a relationship , I’ll let you know. As far as friendships, my friends were shocked at first but came around to it after some clarification. Their biggest worry is my safety. My viewpoint on sex and sexuality has definitely changed. I see the beauty in it vs being judgemental about it.

Do you feel pressure to offer certain types of content to keep your subscribers interested? Any ideal collaborations in the near future?
I don’t. Now I do get a lot of requests for certain things but I have a great relationship with my subs ( very important to me ) so if I’m ever uncomfortable with something I freely say so. I have two inspirations who I would be interested in collaborating with. @justsammorris  @mrfreddycrave . Two artists that live overseas. I’ve followed their works for years.
Do you have any other general observations about your experience using OnlyFans?
I can only speak for myself but onlyfans has given me the confidence to not only be myself and express that but it has encouraged me to be my own boss. Win/win 🦊
