While they may not be mainstream topics of conversation or household names just yet, subscription websites like OnlyFans.com are becoming more and more familiar to LGBTQ communities throughout the world. As early as the internet existed, the monetization of sex work online has proliferated, from early porn download sites to more contemporary video sharing and modern webcam services. Selling subscription services that allow users to view videos or the watch live webcam feeds of professional or amateur sex workers has indeed flourished online for years already. So while OnlyFans and similar websites are not particularly new in concept, they perhaps offer a more user friendly and trendy vehicle for a particular type of sex work, allowing a wider group of people to use the site as content creators and consumers. Here in the US, gay men and trans women seem to be driving the growth of these apps as the landscape of sex work is changing and cultural attitudes within queer communities are shifting and evolving. In particular, OnlyFans and sites like it appear to be emerging as a path for LGBTQ sex workers of color to potentially completely revolutionize not only the nature of their sex work but also to reap unprecedented financial rewards.
Account Name/Link?
Why did you decide to create an OnlyFans / JustForFans account?
Picture it! Los Angeles, 2011, a young man has just downloaded Grindr and is sharing some saucy photos to strangers. Suddenly, someone decides to share these photos on Tumblr without their consent. I was that young man…and that totally sucked. I thought my world was ending because of that! It took me a while to recover from that traumatic experience. And I figured I’d turn that narrative around and own my body and my image.
Were you doing any other type of sex work before (escorting, porn, cam, etc)?
I was escorting and doing cam stuff prior to doing OnlyFans.
Your account is a mix of professional and semi professional photos, how important is that type of curation to your following?
I do my best to be honest with whatever I post; be it honest enjoyment of the partner I’m filming with or the pleasure I’m deriving. As long as I’m happy, they’re happy! You guys are happy, right?
With regard to sex work, do you feel that using OnlyFans offers you more personal safety than relying on escorting or having to meet clients in person?
Absolutely. I’d rather not go into detail but I’ve left a few clients, without compensation, thankful I was able to get away…and I can only imagine the violence my trans sisters endure on the daily. I think OnlyFans and these other services are invaluable to the safety and wellbeing of the community.
Were you concerned about being “exposed” or the social/cultural stigma associated with sex work/pornography?
I still have that fear, though it’s totally unbased. I’ve spent a lot of my life feeling inferior for a plethora of reasons; I won’t let this line of work be another one. And this answer may be a little guileless, but I think sex work should be normalized and celebrated. Just because you don’t like what I do doesn’t mean you should treat me less than a human.
How do you market & promote your account? Instagram? Twitter? Any key tips?
I feel like Twitter is the last bastion for any sort of sexually explicit content, so that’s where it’s at for promotion. As for tips? Reach out to folks for help and promotion! I know it’s the internet but people are a lot nicer than you may think.
What physical asset do you think your followers enjoy the most? The Chest Tatt The Dick, The Ass?
My bubbly personality! Haha, I wish. I think they enjoy my dick and my abs the most…
Do you brand yourself as verse or bottom?
Let it be known that I’m vers! I’m tired of having folks peg me as a sub-bottom because I’m Asian, and I’ve actually received some negative comments for topping. It’s actually really funny to me.
You just collaborated with Boomer Banks, how was that and what do you look for while putting together a OF collab?
I’ve known Boomer for a few years now! We met a while back in San Francisco since we had a lot of mutuals and he was always so sweet to me. He reached out to collaborate and it had to happen. Can’t wait to see him again!! Whenever I collaborate with folks I make sure it’s someone I vibe with. Not to sound totally lame but I’m still a sucker for romance.
Has having an OnlyFans account affected your dating life?
I wish I had a dating life prior to my OnlyFans to compare. Recently I had a date tell me he doesn’t want a sex worker in his life and that he “doesn’t want to date someone who other people can watch get fucked on camera”. In response, a very wise friend said to only date homies that’ll hold the camera for you. And it’s super weird but I’ve added the phrase “recreational sex” to my vocab as of late. I enjoy it all the same, but it hits differently when there isn’t a transaction or camera involved.
Do you have any other general observations about your experience using OnlyFans?
This would be a lot easier if I was a white twink.
