Miss Lawrence Is A STAR

Legendary Miss Lawrence Balenciaga from the Ballroom Scene to Television screen!

What has the transition been like moving from reality television to scripted television?

Transitioning from Reality TV to Scripted television has been quite rewarding. As an Actor, I’m able to fully escape Miss Lawrence and morph into a character or characters. Reality TV is good for a lot of reasons and a lot of people. I can sometimes be very introverted so being able to turn myself “off” and turn a character “on” is a good feeling.

After heavily recurring in Season 1 as Miss Bruce on Star you were promoted to series regular in season 2. What excited were you to receive that news?

I was extremely excited when I got confirmed as a series regular on Star season 2. The moment I got the good news I felt a sense of affirmation that I was “doing the work” and doing it well. Being apart of such a dynamic cast and being directed by Lee Daniels can put a bit of pressure on you to do your best. I guess I succeeded! Lol

Who is your favorite label diva to walk against?

I can’t say that I have a favorite Label Diva to walk against. I think I’m more known as Female Figure Best Dressed “walker” who will also play with the Label Girls or “Divas”. I’m honored to have walked against some of the greatest like Tyrah Ebony, Stephanie Milan Mugler, “Baby” Garcon, Monica Ford, and lots of others. Those individuals have made real imprints on that runway and it’s a real privilege to compete in that circle.

What designer or accessory is a must for you while walking the category?

The Essentials needed to Master Female Figure Best dressed or FF fashion categories period are those of the ballroom fashion bible “HEAD TO TOE OVAH PIECES”. It’s that simple! Be cohesive, guard your fit, and then the “Floor” you can HIT!

This season we saw Miss Bruce throw a ball during season 2 of Star, how influential were you on these scenes?

In this past season, 2 of Star Miss Bruce performed “Boss” by Diana Ross during a Pride celebration in NOLA. What I love is that Lee Daniels allowed me to give some input on what it should look like. His vision was a “Ball” meets “Drag Show” kind of moment, so I was able to refer a lot of the girls used in that scene. To do so, I reached out to my sister Raquel Balenciaga who then put a list of girls together for me. One person that I saw in the clip and got so much life off of was Stasha Sanchez Garcon! That was a fun episode.

Last season we saw Miss Bruce get in trouble with Carlotta over offering illegal butt injections in salon. “Getting Pumped” has be become all too common in our community and now beyond. Do you think the sil & surge movement have any chance of slowing down?

This past season on Star Miss Bruce got fired for a moment for providing illegal but injections or “pumping the girls” lol! What I’m clear of is that the show uses a myriad of real-life examples and cultural references to encourage real conversations that don’t have to happen in secret. Luckily, because of advanced medical and cosmetic practices we no longer have to use illegal practices to get “dream” bodies. But that doesn’t change the reality that some people would rather the cheaper & faster way of getting results. I say to each its own, just be safe!

We saw you slay “You Make Me Feel” by the iconic Sylvester on Empire and perform a series of numbers on Star. Can we expect to see Miss Bruce or MissLawerence release any singles anytime soon?

I expect that Miss Bruce will do more music and sing on Star season 3. I can promise you that Miss Lawrence is currently working on a music project and will definitely be delivering some good stuff sooner than later.

What else can we expect from you in 2018?

I have a big announcement coming before the end of 2018 but I can’t pump the “tea” right now!
